ONE DOUBLE-X : WHAKATANE & EASTERN/CENTRAL BAY OF PLENTY Radio 1XX – The Eastern Bay’s Award-Winning Local Station. Broadcasting from Whakatāne since 1971, Radio 1XX is one of New Zealand’s longest-standing independent commercial radio stations. Proudly serving communities across the Eastern and Central Bay of Plenty such as Opotiki, Kawerau, Te Puke, Murupara and beyond, 1XX has built a reputation for being a trusted local voice. Featuring an adult contemporary music format, 1XX also delivers comprehensive Regional News, essential community updates, and is the official Civil Defence information station for the region. It is a vital source of information in times of emergency and celebration alike. The station has earned widespread recognition over the years, including nine Station of the Year category wins at the NZ Radio & Podcast Awards (1984, 2006, 2008, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2023). In 2018, 1XX was awarded the prestigious Sir Paul Holmes Broadcaster of the Year Award for its outstanding coverage during the Edgecumbe floods. Most recently, in 2024, Radio 1XX received an award from New Zealand On Air for its commitment to local music, playing over 20% Kiwi content. Broadcasting on 90.5FM and 1242AM in Whakatāne, 92.9FM in Ōhope, and streaming online at 1xx.co.nz, Radio 1XX remains proudly local, fiercely independent, and deeply connected to the community it serves. Broadcasting from Whakatāne on 93.7FM, Ōhope Beach on 100.1FM, and streaming online at bayrock.co.nz, Bayrock is the station for those who live and breathe real music. It's rock without the bullshit - just great tracks, straight up, without the fluff. Bayrock is also proud to back local talent, with multiple New Zealand On Air awards recognising the station’s commitment to playing over 20% New Zealand music. Just the biggest tracks, back to back. Broadcasting on 97.7FM in Whakatāne, 99.3FM in Ōhope Beach, and streaming at q97.co.nz, Q97 is tuned into pop culture and plugged into what’s hot right now. In 2024, Q97 was recognised by New Zealand On Air for playing over 20% New Zealand music - proudly supporting Aotearoa artists while keeping listeners in the loop with what’s trending globally. COROMANDEL'S CFM :
WHITIANGA, THAMES & COROMANDEL PENINSULA CFM is a 100% locally owned & operated radio station, broadcasting across the Coromandel, Hauraki Plains, and surrounding areas on 94.0FM & 95.1 FM, and has been broadcasting since 18th November 2018. Overall potential reach is 60k+. We are the only local station with studios on the Coromandel and deliver the Coromandel’s best music variety and 24/7 programming curated specifically for locals, CFM’s "Pure Peninsula Radio" is more than just music – it’s a vital part of the local community, supporting its growth and development. By prioritising local voices and content, CFM plays a central role in connecting residents and visitors alike. CFM broadcasts a National and it’s own locally produced news package. CFM offers a unique platform for businesses to reach the heart of the Coromandel community, tapping into both the permanent residents and the significant influx of visitors each year.
